Veteran’s Garden Three Healing Pillars

1. Heal in a Nature-Based Therapeutic Space Created for Veteran Patients

For many of our nation's Veterans, the journey to healing is not straightforward.  The VA’s Whole Health Department offers a holistic approach to Veteran health and well-being.  The Veteran’s Garden Whole Health model, which emphasizes easy access to fresh fruits and vegetables along with therapeutic outdoor spaces, can be integrated into individual healthcare plans.

2. Grow Fresh Fruits and Vegetables for Veterans experiencing Food Insecurity

The Veteran’s Garden will be the largest working farm co-located with a medical center in the nation. The Garden has the capacity to cultivate more than 500,000 fruit and vegetable plants that can feed the Veterans living in permanent supportive housing the the West Los Angeles VA Campus and beyond

3. Teach Agricultural Training for Veterans Transitioning to Civilian Employment

While many Veterans are interested in transitioning to employment in the agriculture sector, few training opportunities exist in Los Angeles County at present. Through the Garden, VA clinicians and partners will offer training programs to prepare Veterans with the skills they need to transition to agricultural employment, develop business plans and take advantage of their status as a designated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
